This literacy bag extends the book THE RECESS QUEEN by
Alexis O'Neill. The hand-painted bag features Mean Jean,
herself, and inside are seven activities to extend the learning
and the fun. All activities are on card-stock, laminated, cut out
and ready to use!
1. Mean Jean's Rhyming Words: Words that rhyme don't always
have to be spelled alike. Below are some examples from the
story. Draw a line to connect the rhyming words.
2. Meet Long E: The long "E" sound can be made a few
different ways. One way is the letter digraph "ee". Look at the
pictures and words below and decide if the word has a long /E/
or short /E/ sound. If it is long, write the letters "ee" in the blank.
If it is short, write the letter "e" in the blank.
3. The Queen of Q: Circle the pictures that begin with the
letters "qu".
4. Sassy Synonyms: Circle the two words in each row that
mean the same or almost the same.
5. Verb Tense: Fill in the blanks by writing the missing future,
past or present tense of the verbs from the story in each row.
6. Noun & Verb Sort: Sort the words from the story according to
whether the word is a noun or a verb. Place it onto the correct
section of the sorting mat.
7. Jump Rope Chants: Have fun learning the new jump rope
chants will practicing your jump rope.
