The Little Red Hen


This fun, skill building literacy bag is based on the story THE LITTLE RED HEN.
Inside the large hand-painted canvas bag you will find a 9 teacher-created
EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES that give students practice on skills in the areas of
math, reading and language. Each activity is printed in color on quality cardstock
and laminated in 3 mil thick laminating film for extra durability. Of course,
activities are cut out and ready to go!

3. Story retelling pieces: 16 story retelling pieces so student can retell both
versions of the story. Each piece is laminated.
4. -ed word family pull through: A little red hen with the -ed word ending and a pull
through strip featuring various inital consonant sounds and blends for creating
new words
5. -en word family pull through: A white hen with the -en word ending and a pull
through strip featuring various initial sounds and blends for creating new words
6. Math Picture puzzles: Put together the four picture puzzles to create a math
problem with its correct sum. When you are done, write a number sentence for
each puzzle on a piece of paper
7. Creative writing: Write a sentence telling what you would have done if you were
the little red hen (and draw a picture to go with it)
8. Sequencing: Put the five steps in order to tell how the hen baked her bread
9. Vocabulary Match up: Match the correct word card to the definition on this
page. Use the clues from the stories to help you figure out the answer..
10. Story Version Comparison: Fill in the Venn Diagram comparing the two
versions of the story (Paul Galdone and Little Golden Boook Classics)
11. Bread in a Bag: With the help of a grown, make the bread in bag recipe. When
you are done you can share your special treat and celebrate your hard work with
your friends and family. (Great for following directions and measuring skills)
