This literacy bag is designed to extend John Lithgow's book Marsupial Sue--the
story of a young kangaroo that doesn't like jumping and decides to try out the
lives of other Australian animals. A great story for learning to like yourself the way
you are!
Activities include:
Kangaroo Graphing: Graph the colored Kangaroo counters (kangaroo counters
are included).
Logic Game: This is a 4 square by 4 square grid. Place the Australian animal cut
outs (kangaroo, koala, platypus, and wallaby) in all the squares, without having
the same pictures in any row or column.
Hop Through the Seasons Game: Draw a month card. Move your kangaroo
(from the graphing activity) to the square that shows the season for that month.
(Fall = September, October, November; Winter = December, January, February;
Spring = March, April,May; Summer = June, July, August)
Vocabulary Word Search: Find the vocabulary words from the box in the word
search puzzle
Vocabulary: Write the vocabulary word from the word search puzzle in the box
with it's definition.
Creative Writing: What do you like best about being you?
Hop Around: Marsupial Sue got the words out of order while hopping around.
Put the word tiles in the correct order to form the two important messages given
by the author.
Australian Animals: Match the pictures to their names on the mat. Then write
down at least one thing you know about each animal.
