For sale is a new teacher created literacy bag based on Kevin Henkes'
LILLY'S PURPLE PLASTIC PURSE.   The large hand-painted canvas bag
features Lilly with her purse.  Inside, you will find TEN FUN,

TEACHER-CREATED
EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES.  As always, activities are
printed on cardstock, laminated in 3 mil thick laminating pouches, cut out
and ready to go.

1.  Hand-painted canvas bag featuring Lilly

2.  Purple Purse Context Clues and Definitions
Students read each story related sentence on the dark purple purse
focusing on the meaning of the underlined word.  They then match that
sentence card with the light purple purse card that has the meaning that
best describes the underlined word.

3. Lilly's Synonym BINGO game
When the caller calls a word/phrase, the student finds the synonym on the
BINGO (words are from the story).  A student can also play this alone by
matching the cards to the correct synonym square.

4. In the Classroom Sequencing
Students put in chronological order seven events the happened in Lilly's
classroom the day she brought in her purple plastic purse.

5.  Money Match
Students match together the cards featuring the front sides of coins, the
back sides of coins and a short coin poem that helps student remember
how much each coin is worth.

6. Cause and Effect Puzzles
Students match the two puzzle pieces together that make up a cause and
effect pair. (Features situations from the story)

7. Adjective/Noun/Picture Matching
Students draw a line from the adjective to the noun it describes and then
to the correct picture.  (Features objects from the story.  This is an
awesome book for introducing and reinforcing adjectives!)

8.  Lilly Bubble Thinking Map
Students complete the bubble map describing what type of person Lilly is.

9.  Mr. Slinger Bubble Thinking Map
Students complete the bubble map describing Mr. Slinger.
(For more of a challenge, students can use what they learned about Mr.
Slinger from the story description to draw conclusions about what type of
teacher he is.)

10. Creative Writing
Students write about another way Lilly could have handled her anger
towards Mr. Slinger instead of drawing a mean picture of him.

11. Coin Counting
This can be used in a couple different ways. 1.) Students can match the
card pairs that feature the same coin configuration. 2.) Students can count
the amount on the coin cards and match them to their correct amount
(there are two sets of amount cards-one with the amount expressed with
the cents symbol and one written with the dollar sign and decimal point).
3.) Students can just match the amount cards.  4.) Students can use play
coins to count out ways to equal the amount on each card.

12.  Activity Letter
Explains how to do each activity included in the bag.
