Here's a delicious literacy bag based on the book HOW TO EAT FRIED
WORMS by Thomas Rockwell.  This teacher-created bag is geared toward
upper elementary and has several fun and educational activities!  As always,
all activities are laminated in thick 3 mil. laminating film and are printed on
card stock for durability.
This title is also available in an ACTIVITIES CD-
ROM format.  This option is great for those who don't use literacy bags or
would like to have the activities only to put together their own centers or bags.

1. Adorable HAND-PAINTED canvas bag

2. Character/Description Matching Activity for the four Main Characters
Students match the card with a character trait to the can of worms
with the correct main character's name (includes four large "cans of
worms" with character names and 15 character trait cards w/ answers
on back)

3. Vocabulary Word Matching
Students read the vocabulary word and context clue sentence from
the story on one card and match it to the correct definition word card
(12 pairs)

4. Descriptive Writing
Students fill in the blanks to write a detailed contract that spell out the
guidelines for the dare between Billy and Alan

5. Favorite Condiment Graph
Students poll their family and friends to find out what condiment they
would use if they had to eat a worm and then graph the information on
the bar graph (wipe off use)

6. Gummi-Worm Measuring
Students use Gummi-Worms to measure the length, perimeter and
circumference of common items found in the home

7. Recipe Creative Writing
Students write their own "worm" recipe on this reproducible.  They
must list the ingredients and step by step procedure.  (This is great
when each student's page is bound to make a class cookbook!)
