The activities on this cd-rom were created to accompany the story
Blizzard of the Blue Moon and Twister on Tuesday ( Magic Tree House
books) by Mary Pope Osborne All original, teacher created activities are
in PDF format and are ready for you to print out and use as wish in your
classroom. There are a total of 14 activities.
BLIZZARD OF THE BLUE MOON
1. Twelve Story Sequencing Cards--Put the cards in order to retell the
story.
2. Comprehension Questions--Answer the questions about the story.
3. Snowflake Haiku--Read the Snowflake Haiku. Try writing your own
haiku. (The line-by-line instructions are included)
4. Winter Clothes Graph--Count how many there are of each piece of
winter clothing and graph the results on the bar graph.
5. Snowy Story Problems--Solve the word problems on the story problem
page. Read each problem carefully to decide whether you should add or
subtract.
6. Snow person Glyph--Follow the instructions to create your own unique
snow person. (includes glyph directions and a reproducible snowman
outline)
7. Story retelling pieces--(Not pictured) Black and white photo pictures
depict scenes of life in old New York City while colored pieces round out
the remainder of items from the story.
8. Snowflake Cards--Numbered 50 to 100. These can be used for a
variety of activities: a.) a "war" card game wherever cards are divided
amongst the players who lay out one card at a time and whoever has the
highest number wins; b.) addition or subtraction problems where two
cards are draw and student creates an addition or subtraction problem.;
c.) Number sequencing; d.) Number patterns
9. Activity Letter--Explains how to do each activity
TWISTER ON TUESDAY
1. Story Sequencing Cards--Put the ten cards in order to retell the story of
Twister on Tuesday.
2. Vocabulary Matching--Match together the words with their definitions.
3. Word Problems--Use addition and subtraction to solve the tornado
themed word problems and choose the correct answer from the multiple
choice format.
4. Tornado Alley--Find the states located in Tornado Alley as well as the
states that commonly experience tornadoes but are not in Tornado Alley.
5. Singular or Plural--Read the word in each twister square and circle
"singular" if it is in the singular form or "plural" if it is in the plural form.
For added practice you can write the word in the opposite form than it is
given. (ie: If the word is "potato", the student would circle "singular" and
write the plural form, "potatoes" under or above the picture.)
6. Tornado Fact Sheet and information sheet--Read facts about tornadoes
and how they are formed.
7. Activity Letter--Explains how to do each activity.
