Learn more about the frozen wonderland of Antarctica with the 10 original cross curricular
activities in this bag.  All activities are on card stock, laminated, cut out and ready to use.

1. Whopper of a Whale:  Put the whale cards in size order from smallest to largest.

2. How Big?:  Find a large area (such as a long sidewalk or empty parking lot).  Using the
information from one of the whale cards, measure out the length of the whale.  Use sidewalk to
chalk to draw you life-size whale.  Use the information on the whale cards.

3. Southern Lights: Read about the Southern Lights seen at the South Pole and then study the
pictures.  Choose your favorite picture and describe it in detail.

4. Antarctic Animal Picture Match:  Match the picture of each polar animal found in Antarctica to it's
name card (answers are on the back).

5. Brrrr...It's Cold Outside:  Use the bar graph with the average monthly temperatures at the
University of Wellington's Antarctic Research Centre to answer the questions about temperatures
in Antarctica.

6. The Antarctic Food Chain:  Read the information about the food chain in the Antarctic.  Then,
create three food chain models by placing the name cards on the food chain model page in the
correct place.

7. Map It:  Study the map of Antarctica and answer the questions at the bottom of the page.

8. The Polar Bears:  Read all about the fascinating polar bears.  Then complete each sentence on
the questions page by placing the polar bear card with the correct answer on each ice float
question.

9. Learn About the Seals Venn Diagram:  After reading about two of the seals found in Antarctica,
the Weddell Seal and the Northern Fur Seal, complete the Venn diagram telling how they are alike
and different.

10. Seal Glyph:  Follow  the instructions to create your own seal data glyph.
Create a Bar Graph:  Use the information about each of the Antarctic penguins to make a bar
graph showing how much each one weighs.

11. Activity Letter:  Explains how to do each activity.
