This hand-painted canvas bag is a treasure trove of fun, educational activities
based on the book A BAD CASE OF STRIPES by David Shannon. Included are
THIRTEEN activities that cover the areas of reading, language, writing, math and
science. As always, activities are in full color, printed on cardstock, laminated in
thick 3 mil. laminating film and cut out for you. Even the lima beans are included!

INCLUDED:
1. Large Hand-painted Canvas Bag
2. Measuring the Stripes:
Measure each stripe using the lima beans. Record your answer in the box at the
end of each stripe.
(dried lima beans are included)
3. Bean Counters:
Match each bean card (with the beans colored in light and dark green) with the
addition problem card that matches the problem. (ie: 3 dark green beans and 7
light green beans would be matched to the 3+7=10 card.)
4. Memory Match:
Play a memory match game by turning all the cards upside down and taking turns
turning over two cards until you find the pairs that are decorated the same.
5. Stripe Tally:
Put the colored popsicle sticks in a bag or box. Without looking, pick one out.
Mark a tally mark next to the color you picked. Do this fourteen more times.
When you have finished, answer the questions at the bottom of the page.
6. Vocabulary Cards:
Match together each word card with it's correct definition card.
7. Beginning Letter Sounds:
Say the name of each picture. Write the beginning letter sound you hear on the
line.
8. Growing Lima Beans
(A science experiment and lesson in observation and recording data):
This lima bean activity will help children develop science skills including
prediction, observation, and recording while encouraging language development.
The children will plant the lima beans two different ways * in a cup with soil and
wrapped in paper in a plastic bag. (Dried lima beans are included.)
9. Make a Pattern:
Use the paper person and create your own striped pattern.
10. Math Mats:
Place the correct number of bean indicated on each math mat.
11. Creative Writing:
Write about a time you were sick and what helped you feel better.
12. A Poem About Me:
Follow the directions on the page to compose a short diamante poem just about
you!
13. Favorite Bean Graph:
Interview ten people about their favorite type of bean. Fill in the graph to show
your answers.
14. Discussion Questions:
Questions to help parents discuss the story with their child.
