This wonderful literacy bag is based on the "amazing" story of "Amazing Grace" by Mary Hoffman. It's a great title for showing students that they can do anything they put their minds to--regardless of the obstacles. Included in the hand-painted bag are seven educational activities. As always, activities are printed on cardstock, laminated in three mil thick laminating pouches and cut out ready to go.
Included:
Character Characteristics: Match each definition star cut out to the characteristic it defines. Then on the line, write one example from the story to show how Grace demonstrated these traits.
Reach for the Stars and Reach Your Goal: Grace's goal was to be Peter Pan in the class play, even though her classmates told her she couldn't. Her grandmother told her she could do anything she put her mind to. Brainstorm and write a list of things that you would like to be or do--even if other's don't think you can. Pick your favorite and write down two or three things you can do to help you reach that goal.
Amazing Me: Follow the directions on the page to write a diamante poem about yourself.
Story Sequencing: Read each statement on the story strips. Put the events in the order in which they happened in the story.
Goal-Action-Outcome: Write the answers to the following questions in their correct space on the mat. What was Grace's goal? What action did she take to reach it? What was the outcome?
Vocabulary Tic-Tac-Toe: Decide what word in the word box matches the definition in a square on the game board. If you get the answer right, you can write an "X" or "O" on that square. If you get it wrong, you don't get to mark any square for that turn
Amazing Grace Comprehension Game: Roll the die. Pick a card and answer the question. If you answer it correctly, move the number of spaces shown on the die. Follow any directions written on the space you landed on.
Activity letter: Explaining how to do each activity
